Dear Gazette,

To paraphrase Forest Gump, “[The Democratic party] is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get.”  It’s not just John Kerry with his consistent inconsistency, but it is the entire party that has this problem.  I recall a statement by Al Gore, in the 2000 Presidential race, claiming that the Constitution is “a living, breathing document.”  What that statement really means is that the actual intended meaning of  the Constitution does not matter, but only what the Democrats want it to say, at any given point in time.  What is most important to them is not what they said in the past, but what they are saying now, which changes with different groups to whom they are speaking.  That is why we have activist judges making up laws as they go, Democratic senators forcing a 60% majority vote on judicial appointments by their filibusters rather than the simple majority mandated by the Constitution, and Senator Kerry proudly stating he voted for war before voting against it.

The muddled thinking that passes as great reasoning in the Democratic Party amazes me.  For instance, Democratic Senator, Barbara Mikulski, says that she could not support the Unborn Victims of Violence Act  because it would define “the fetus as a human being.”  Doesn’t she realize that “fetus” means “baby” in Latin?  It’s like saying: An infante (Spanish) is not a human being or a bambino (Italian) is not a human being.  Or, how about Democratic Congressman Ben Cardin’s assertion that he could not support a tax cut because it might benefit a rich person?  Excuse me?  President Bush’s tax cut was beneficial to ALL taxpayers.  Did  you receive your tax rebate in the mail?  Do you want it and your other tax cuts taken away based on Ben Cardin’s reasoning?

How can anybody vote for any Democrats with so much uncertainty in the party?  What are you actually voting for?  The Democrats have, at least, done one thing consistently - become more liberal.  Do liberals vote Democratic in the hope they will continue down that path?  That means greater support for homosexual marriage, further suppression of religious expression (e.g. removal of Christian symbols at Christmas and of the Ten Commandments from public places), and raising of our taxes to support it all.  Is that what we want as a community?
