Dear Gazette,
I see a number of campaign signs out already and noticed that Delegate Donald Elliott had his signs out before anyone in the area. I wonder if this is the best the Republican party can come up with. In a state controlled largely by the Democrats that is probably so. He sure likes redistribution of wealth taxes and bogus environmental programs. I thought socialism was the domain of the Democrats but you may be unelectable in this state unless you buy into some of that failed ideology. Take his health care tax bill: he wants to force the so-called rich (namely you and me) to buy health insurance whether they want to or not by taxing them unless they do. Yeah, the pay-as-you-go crowd – there's a real burden on society. The real idea is to take from the “rich” and give to the “poor” ala Robin Hood. Don't forget that a family where the mother and father are teachers in our public school system fall into the “rich” category. How about the Democrat sponsored “Flush Tax”? Elliott was not the only one dumb enough to vote for this one but Senator David Brinkley voted for this one, as well. This is where, if you hadn't noticed, your property tax bill bumped up with a tax that (now get this) is going to be used to cover the clean-up of the Chesapeake Bay if your septic tank fails. OK, I am more than 60 miles from the Bay but I am supposed to be able to do about $30 worth of damage per year if my septic tank fails?! Where's the proof? What study backs this (pardon the pun) crap up? The real story here is that we are all to bear the burden of failed sewer systems in Baltimore. The share-the-pain idea championed by former Governor Glendening during a drought late in his last term.
If we re-elect Elliott and those like him, we will all be sharing more pain just as the price at the pump hits a new high.
